Child and Adolescent Psychotherapy
I help children to make sense of their world and how they experience it; supporting them to feel happier, be more able to enjoy their day-to-day activities at home and school and fulfil their potential.
I understand how to work with children and adolescents using fun and creative methods including art, play, puppets and sand tray therapy, as well as films and music.
During a session, young children do not always talk directly about difficult things but will usually communicate through play. Older children may also play or draw whilst teenagers are more likely to talk about their feelings, although many prefer to draw or discuss problems through talking about films and music. I can see very young children with their parents in order to think about patterns of interaction.
Play is a powerful form of communication which may express how a child feels and the difficulties they may be experiencing. The relationship between the child and myself is central to the therapy showing how children often relate to other adults in their lives. Sessions can take place in the therapy room, but for some children who find it hard to engage in this way we can also meet outside in the woods or on the beach.
